There were many great gowns, beautiful gowns on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but we’re always more interested in what comes after – the looks where the stars are able to relax, slightly, let their hair down and celebrate.
Unlike other ceremonies, where a second ensemble is called for, stars generally kept their same looks to attend events like the ‘official gala’ hosted by People magazine in the same room, or the Netflix celebration at the Chateau Marmont.
This was the first SAGs following the actors’ strike, which saw the union fight on their behalf, and also one of the last shows of the awards ceremony season ahead of the big one – the Oscars – on March 10.
At the awards themselves, Ayo Edebiri and Lily Gladstone won once again, Pedro “I’m a little drunk” Pascal wore his shirt half open and Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt did another The Devil Wears Prada reunion. But to the after-parties! Herewith, our favourite ensembles.
Best accessory
Carey Mulligan’s custom gold Armani Privé gets more sumptuous the more you look at it, but our eye is drawn to Rebecca Hall, who paired her simple Khaite dress with a simple but powerful accessory: an ‘artists for ceasefire’ pin.
Best plaid
Ayo Edebiri’s award and red carpet reign continues, with this bold and unexpected Luar dress. She’s here at the after party with Kathryn Hahn, wearing Givenchy.
Best gloves
Chic! Elegance! What else is there to say about Ensemble favourite Greta Lee, in a full look by The Row.
Best pink
Colman Domingo is one of the best-dressed men on the red carpet right now, with this pink strappy suit by the late Virgil Abloh’s brand Off-White adding to his award season sartorial wins. He’s with Elaine Welteroth at the Netflix party at the Chateau Marmont, who’s wearing Sophie Couture.
Best in tulle
Danielle Brooks’s Christian Siriano half-tuxedo, half-gown look is a lot of fun, while her The Colour Purple co-star Corey Hawkins proves that brown suits rule.
Most comfortable
The Ted Lasso cast opted for matching Nike tracksuits for the afters, each custom adorned with the show’s team’s crest. They looked like they were having the most fun of all; comfort certainly helps. A shout out to Hannah Waddingham’s crystal football clutch, which replaced the cardboard bag made by her daughter that she’d carried earlier on the red carpet.
Best shirt
Pedro having a panic attack in Prada: swoon. A moment for this hardworking crisp white shirt.
