Our favourite looks from the 2022 SAG Awards

It's award season! Held in Los Angeles, the Screen Actors Guild Awards acknowledges performances across film and television - with this year's big winners including Squid Games, Will Smith (King Richard) and Kate Winslet (Mare of Easttown). But we're here for the fashion; keep scrolling for our favourite red carpet ensembles.

Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino

If the trend is ‘90s then having the stars of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion reunite is pretty much all you need to do to hit the trend threshold. I don’t know what they’re wearing and I don’t care. Looking at this photo fills me with joy and hope and all that’s good with the world. Is it too late to get them to host the Oscars? - Rebecca Wadey

Prada couples

Oh to be a Prada couple! When Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons welcome actors as ambassadors, they often extend the partnership to said actor’s talented-in-their-own right partner; dressing both for red carpet appearances and beyond. For the SAG Awards, two of the coolest looking couples wore matching or complementary Prada ensembles: Oscar Isaac and Elvira Lind, and Jeff Goldblum and Emilie Livingston.

Oscar is hot and his style, impeccable so I expect nothing less; his brown jacket and dusky pink shirt and bow tie delivers (please note also the shiny Prada lace-ups). And I love Elvira’s powdery pink satin dress matched with the pink nails, silver shoes and bejewelled Prada dream bag.

I prefer Emilie Livingston’s suit to Jeff Goldblum’s, with its ruched detailing at the waist. But they look incredible together, and they always look like they’re having fun!.

Demi Singleton in custom Celine Couture

She plays a young icon as Serena Williams in King Williams and with this star turn, she’s turned into a fashion icon (I’ll see myself out for that sentence. I look forward to a sizzling career at the Daily Mail). But just look at her - she’s 15 years old and has achieved that incredibly difficult task of dressing age appropriately without being too demure, or sexualised. Stylist Jason Bolden has worked with Yara Shahidi for much of her career from child star, and shows himself here to be a master at his craft. - RW

Andrew Garfield in Saint Laurent

Menswear never really turns my head on a red carpet - it’s usually either traditional tuxedo and rather boring, or trying way too hard to be the opposite of that. But this vintage-inspired look is so cool, and for me it’s all in the wide-legged pants, sharp shoulders and the black and silver pinstripe. He’s also wearing a striped silk lavalliere rather than a tie (chic), and a Cuban heel. Vaguely ‘70s-esque, it was inspired by the doco Get Back and the style of George Harrison.

Elle Fanning in Gucci

Elle told reporters on the red carpet that she “didn’t feel like wearing a dress”. A bold statement given these show ponies have gone so long without. I love to see people take risks on the red carpet - and I don’t mind when some say those risks don’t pay off; I prefer it to being predictable. That said, this custom Gucci suit pays off in spades. I’d love to have been a fly on the wall when Alessandro Michele pitched this to Samantha McMillen, Elle’s stylist: ‘I’m thinking sequin pinstripe pants, a sheer top, satin vest, and a bow tie’. Genius. - RW

Jada Pinkett Smith in vintage Gareth Pugh

I love when people wear vintage on the red carpet, but particularly when it’s vintage from their own wardrobe. This statement look from Jada may not be my favourite styling, but I love the meaning and story behind it - and when celebrities reject the red carpet industrial complex!

Selena Gomez in Oscar de la Renta and Bvlgari

My favourite red carpet looks are the ones that take up a lot of space and where the wearer appears comfortable. They just seem like they’re having a better time when they can move, and eat! For that reason some of my usual faves have missed the mark this time (I’m looking at you Cate). Amongst the sea of bodycon stands out Selena’s beautiful gown by Oscar de la Renta. Sure it’s fitted but there’s shape in the sleeves rather than being so reliant on the shape of her body, and the cut out is subtle also. The scraped back hair and beautiful jewels take it to another level altogether. Love. - RW
