Wellington’s style character is as diverse as its natural environments, from the vintage vibe of Cuba Street to suits near the Beehive and student-influenced embrace of DIY self-expression. But if there’s one thing that ties it all together, it’s a practicality dictated by the elements.

The city has long been a home of sustainably focused design, with a fresh wave of brands that are upending the ‘quirky’ stereotype. Think of the colour and whimsy of Twenty-seven Names, Havilah and Jojo, the textural techniques of Frazier, Otsu and Olli or the slow fashion approach of James Bush and JPalm . There’s also an energetic creative scene, with photographers, stylists and the like documenting this new ‘Wellington look’. 

With that in mind, we asked an ensemble of young Pōneke creatives, led by photographer Tommie Love, to showcase looks from just some Wellington-based brands, against the magical coastal landscape of Red Rocks Pariwhero.
