Our weekly look at the stunningly beautiful and beautifully ugly celebrity ensembles that set the group chat alight - this week, they're mainly by Loewe, and mostly in Venice...
Best in pink
Pedro Almodovar is famous for his incredible use of colour in his iconic films, and his own personal style – and this vibrant pink Loewe suit on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival is a playful statement that’s perfectly on brand. But it’s the addition of the gold feather brooch and groovy glasses that makes it even more perfectly weird. – Zoe Walker Ahwa
Best two piece
Taylor Russell is one of the most exciting red carpet girlies out there, and I’m so pleased she made it to Venice; her looks never fail to bring me joy. It appears she was at the festival in her capacity as brand ambassador for Loewe, and she wore several incredible Loewe looks throughout the festivities, all of which would be deserving as ‘best’, but it’s this custom Alaïa two piece that’s really taken my breath away. The proportion of it all is utterly perfect, it’s simultaneously sculptural and soft, and I’m obsessed with the jewellery framing that exquisite face. - Rebecca Wadey
Best getting off a boat
Lady Gaga has gone from retro crooner mode to movie star glam, with her appearances at the Venice Film Festival kick starting her Joker: Folie à Deux press tour. I love how studied she is with her looks and aesthetic for each creative phase of her career, with this one clearly taking a theatrical and dark approach to fit the film. This full-skirted velvet dress with puff sleeves and square neckline is by Dior haute couture, and is classic ‘movie star getting off a boat’. The little hat and platform heels are a very Gaga flourish. – ZWA
Best nepo-dressing
To be fair Eve Hewson is someone with real star factor; she’s mesmerising in everything I’ve seen her in. And yes, she’s Bono’s daughter. But the famous parent I’m referring to here is Eve’s mother, Ali Hewson, who launched the sustainable clothing brand Edun in 2005.
Great taste is clearly in the genes, as Eve is truly holding her own against excellent wearer of red carpet clothing Nicole Kidman on the press circuit for their new show The Perfect Couple. Firstly, in this super-cute monochromatic peplum dress in London, and next in a Patou baby-pink strapless gown which is vaguely reminiscent of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Ralph Lauren Oscar winning number, but infinitely cooler.
Eve has recently started working with highly regarded stylist Karla Welch, I’m excited to see where this partnership takes us. I’m also excited to check out The Perfect Couple on Netflix this weekend! - RW
Best poo reference
“Not sure about the turd on the hip,” was a comment online about this gown on Lesley Manville in Venice, and now that’s all I can see (yes, that’s juvenile humour). It’s still chic! It’s also by Loewe, a brand known for its subversive humour and twists on the idea of chic, so it could actually be a reference… Love the styling with the slicked back hair and gold jewellery accents. – ZWA
Best man
James Bond has never really done it for me but it seems Benoit Blanc is a different matter altogether. Apparently Daniel Craig’s Venice Film Festival aesthetic is in keeping with his role in the ridiculously named sequel Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. He’s in Venice to promote his latest film, Luca Guadagnino’s Queer which, like the director’s previous film Challengers, has Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson as costume designer. As such Daniel Craig is giving custom Loewe meets surfer-chic French detective and honestly it’s a vibe. - RW
