I love when a celebrity outfit alerts you to a new exciting designer, like this cartoony silk taffeta dress worn by Emma Corrin on the press trail for Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s by UK brand Freddy Coomes, run by two recent Central Saint Martins graduates who had been interning at Loewe, with a playful surrealist sensibility (they also did Sienna Miller’s great green pre-Met Gala dress). It’s like a doll’s paper dress, but made real – and not as twee – with the white socks and black lace-ups. The bow trend discourse may feel like it’s died down, but as I’ve always said: bows are forever. – Zoe Walker Ahwa

Best defense of stagnancy

It's a combination seemingly designed to appeal directly to me: A double-breasted Givenchy blazer and sheer Falke tights, worn by none other than Amy Sedaris. Part of a great Harper's Bazaar spread titled Fall's Most Defining Clothes on Fashion's Biggest Characters.

That said, the captions speak just as loudly as the garments. The article pull quote is a vibe “Nothing’s CHANGED. I haven’t GROWN. I think I graze on the SAME old patch of dried-out grass that I’ve been CHEWING on since I was 10 years old. The way I UNDERSTOOD how everything WORKED at that age is exactly how I am NOW.” But Sedaris' Instagram caption was even better  "I like that I look my age and that I got to work with all these professionals Thank you for including me."

I'm not the only fan, the comment section is a roll call of blue ticks: Aidy Bryant, Amber D, Jewel and Cindy Sherman (!) among the masses pouring adoration on our comedy queen  – Tyson Beckett

Best runner up

Zoe bet me to my favourite look this week with the Emma Corrin bow dress that I WANT TO OWN. But this Christopher John Rogers dress worn by Cole Escola on The View to support their Broadway play ‘Oh, Mary!’ is the next best thing. Infinitely wearable and full of joy, this is the kind of piece that would enhance any wardrobe. And the good news is it’s available for only USD$1,495! - Rebecca Wadey

As a former wannabe skater teen girl, this look from Chappell Roan at the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle speaks to me. But what I actually love is how unexpected it is. She’s had so many fun and over-the-top performance outfits - from her 80s prom queen for her Tiny Desk to her butterfly wing homage to Lady Miss Kier at Coachella, Statue of Liberty cosplay at the Governors Ball to tribute to Divine at Kentuckiana Pride - that this feels like a deliberate challenge of ‘you zig, I zag’.

The 90s Alien Workshop tee, the perfect baggy jeans, vintage studded belt and the puffy skater shoes — it’s giving Aotea Square in the early noughties. Her makeup artist even added face scars and a hickey. Chappell and her team love a reference, and this skater/grunge tribute one is so clever and cool. – ZWA

I mean, when it comes to Zendaya and Law Roach there is never any contest. But here she is, the reigning gold medalist of celebrity dressing, resplendent in Louis Vuitton at the ‘Prelude to the Olympics’. Which sounds like a made-up occasion to get people out of athleisure wear and into red carpet attire and I am very much on board with that. This particular gown has a 90s-esque Calvin Klein vibe about it which makes it very event-appropriate (even if I don’t know what the event is) while still being glam and sparkly. J’adore. - RW

Gigi Hadid wore two great yellow outfits to the NY premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine. I loooove the sunshine PVC raincoat she wore to the afterparty, but I can’t stand the canary shoes. So instead I’m going with this very 2000s Miu Miu look she wore to the actual screening. From the handkerchief top to the low slung waist and chunky bracelets (who knew Dinosaur Designs were still going so strong) down to the covetable handbag and anklets. This shit is bananas. – RW

Best matchy matchy

This is clearly promo for Fenty x Puma sneakers and Savage x Fenty (though she hasn’t tagged either of them), but the energy of the video and the caption – “matching my shoes to my panties” – is giving pure silly billy Riri. A cute preppy look too! – ZWA
