We don’t know about you but our dance cards are stacked right now. Our introverted selves are coming out of sleepy winter hibernation to an alarming iCal crammed with events. Breakfasts, lunches, fancy dinners, backyard BBQ’s, beach picnics, gigs, weddings, launches – it’s positively overwhelming.
Call us superficial but a chic outfit can help alleviate (some of) our social anxiety and make us excited to be out and about. Whether it’s a cute chilly bin or a glamorous gown, let our summer party personas inspire you to face the world with confidence.
Rebecca at a wedding
“My bestie is getting married this summer, only on the other side of the world, so brrr, cold. I’m obsessed with my new dress from Wynn Hamlyn (ignoring cliches of not wearing black to weddings) which is named ‘Zoe’ (another reason I couldn’t resist), so I had to include it in my fantasy lineup (which would also work for an Aotearoa summer).
I also can’t live without my ghd blow dry brush which I will be lugging to Scandinavia with me - I took it to the States earlier this year but the voltage was wrong, here’s hoping Europe is different #tech. Glam Carla Zampatti sunnies will help with the glare off the snow for the precious hours of daylight I get. I’ve loved these Paris Georgia wedges since we shot Lorde in a version of them last year, they’d look so great with my dress (accessorised with frostbitten toes). In any kind of extreme weather Sans Ceutical body oil is my go to, and especially the case with getting my shoulders out in subzero temperatures. Glam eyes and accessories and I’m hot (cold) to go.”
Georgie at the pub
"The good thing about pubs is you can basically wear whatever you want. Tracksuits: great. Rugby shirt: inevitable. Heels and body con dress: absolutely, if that’s your vibe. Personally, I err on the side of teenage boy when I get dressed (comfy baggy pants two sizes too big), but I still want to look a little cute as I guzzle my Guinness and yell at a TV.
With that in mind, I’m loving my Zambesi ‘skort’ – as comfortable as basketball shorts but a little chicer. Also really into monochrome at the moment, so I’d love to get my hands on this Jess Grindell corset and pair it with a beautiful pink satin bra from Underlena that offsets said teen boy characteristics. My Adidas Taekwondo sneakers keep things chill (comfy); then I’d whack on an oversized jacket, some body moisturiser to get rid of the winter scale, and some slouchy socks that scream ‘I played sport once in high school.’"
Zoe at a picnic
“A light cotton dress is my go-to from December through to maybe March, whether it’s a day at the beach (togs underneath) or an afternoon picnic in the park. I have a pair of well-loved shorts in this green check fabric, and they’re the lightest, loveliest things that I wear regularly throughout summer, so I was happy to see Kowtow repurpose the fabric into a perfectly relaxed party dress. Add a scrunchie, oversized frames and a straw basket filled with festive treats and sunscreen, and I’m sorted for the holidays.”
