These were the best looks from the Oscar after-parties

We said it last year, and we’ll say it again: the fashion at the Oscar after-parties is way better. And after the slightly underwhelming beige looks at the main event, we needed the fantasy and fun that the post-show celebrations bring.

Los Angeles becomes a city of parties for the night, with several annual events like the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party and the Governors Ball. Herewith, our favourite after-party ensembles… (We'll be updating this as more celebrities arrive)

Tracee Ellis Ross in Balmain

THANK GOD FOR TRACEE (and her stylist Karla Welch). A lesson in posing and poise. Mother, slay etc etc, as the youth would say...

Paul Mescal in Gucci (and a vest)

Paul loves a vest, and swapping out his shirt and bow tie for a comfy white one for the after-party is move to respect.

Jennifer Coolidge and her hair

A bit upset that Queen Jennifer is wearing Dolce & Gabbana here, but let’s just focus on the incredible volume of her hair.

Angela Bassett in Moschino

An unbothered queen in a delightfully whimsical bow jumpsuit.

Suki Waterhouse in Elie Saab

If you’re going to wear a gown with a flower applique, wear a ridiculously huge one, no?

Adwoa Aboah in Loewe

More flower detailing, this time in the form of orchid boob placements. It’s fun! It's camp! Also, love her green nail polish.

Andrew Garfield in Valentino

The menswear at the Oscars was possibly more exciting than everything else - and this retro-style red jacket for the Vanity Fair party was a fun flourish. We’re just gutted he didn’t reconnect on camera with Amelia Dimoldenberg…

Donald Glover in Alexander McQueen

Add this jumpsuit with cut-out back to the list of fantastic menswear that strays far from the traditional black tuxedo fall-back. The bare chest, the necklaces, the pose – it all works. He knows he looks hot.

Hunter Schafer in Ann Demeulemeester

There were so many boob centric ensembles at these after-parties, but this barely there version featuring a feather 'top' is one of the best.

Naomi Campbell in Schiaparelli

*Another* bosom focused dress… This Schiaparelli option features trompe l’œil brass and hand-faceted glass nipple piercings.

Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad

Maybe I’m just exhausted, but after the parade of white and beige outfits at the actual Oscars, this slightly ridiculous feather beaded kaftan gown felt like a breath of fresh air.

Lisa Eisner

I don’t know who this person is – a quick Google told me that she’s a jeweller, photographer and book publisher – but her look (which might be Gucci, or it might be vintage?) is the energy I needed. And her feathery hair accessory!
